Prefab, prefab, prefab - it seems that we can't get enough of the small, stylish, modern homes. And, apparently neither can the New York Times. The Times recently profiled several owners of small prefabs (most under 500 square feet) to show the rising popularity of the modern "mini-home." Unfortunately, many of the homes profiled in the article are second or vacation homes, further stigmatizing the small footprint prefab as something that can only be used for a period of weeks, not the whole year. I have to admit, not too many of us could live comfortably in a 120 square foot structure year round, and as we have said before second homes aren't necessarily evil. That being said, an eco-conscious second home is great, but a small footprint first home is even better. ::Via Bldg Blog and NYT
